NEWBERG, Ore. (KOIN) — One cyclist died and another was critically injured after being involved in a crash in Newberg Tuesday night, officials said.

The crash between two bicycles and a compact SUV happened on North Valley Road near Dopp Road around 7:05 p.m., Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office said.

Officials said the cyclists were riding side by side westbound on North Valley Road when they were hit from behind. The collision forced the riders onto the hood of the Toyota SUV, which carried them about 100 feet before stopping.

44-year-old Tara Manitsas died at the scene. 60-year-old David Manitsas was taken by Life Flight helicopter to Oregon Health Science University. He remains in critical condition.

Both riders are residents of Newberg.

The driver of the car sustained minor injuries in the crash. 71-year-old Nancy Faunt stayed on the scene and cooperated with investigators.
