PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Two women died and another person was hurt in a hit-and-run crash on SE Powell Blvd. that involved at least 4 cars.

Aimee Reichert told KOIN 6 News she saw the driver of a BMW SUV speed through the intersection of SE 148th and Powell and hit another SUV around 3 p.m. Monday.

“I was driving and saw the accident happen and stopped,” Reichert said. “It was very fast and hard to recall all the details.”

Portland Fire and Rescue said one woman died at the scene and another was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The second woman died Tuesday from her injuries.

The victims were sisters, Charlene Hauth and Robin Macready.

“I just had my hand on the woman’s back, just trying to say words, letting her know help was on the way,” Reichert said.

Portland police said the driver ran from the scene.

Dale Heasley, who lives about a mile away at SE 132nd and Center Street, came home to find the suspect in his backyard.

“There’s this guy standing on my patio door, knocking, asking me to please let him in,” Heasley said.

“I told the police he was in my backyard and I went and looked and the cover was off my swimming pool and the water was moving,” Heasley said. “I went back there with the dogs and sure enough there he was, hiding in the cover.”

Police arrested 20-year-old Antonio Trayvontae Montgomery. He faces charges of manslaughter, assault, four counts of recklessly endangering another person, burglary, reckless driving, and multiple counts of failure to perform the duties of a driver.
