2 die when hit by Amtrak train near Canby

CANBY, Ore. (KOIN) — Two people died in a likely suicide when they were hit by an Amtrak train heading north from Eugene Sunday afternoon.

The train was on Union Pacific tracks and was passing through Canby when the people were hit around Hwy 99E at South End Road. Passenger train 506 was headed to Portland and its final destination in Seattle.

The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office is the lead investigative agency. No names have been released.

Amtrak is making arrangements for the on-train passengers to continue their travel.
