PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — “I don’t know anything about what’s going on at all. You know, of course I’m gonna cooperate. I mean, I don’t have anything to hide. I want the person to be caught just as much as anyone else does.”
Tonya Harding said that in the KOIN studios on January 12, 1994 — almost exactly 24 years ago — just 6 days after US Ice Skating teammate Nancy Kerrigan was attacked in a hallway after a practice session in Detroit.
Weeks later her story unraveled when a garbage bag with a commuter ticket to Detroit, a ticket from the Ice Skaters Association and an envelope with doodles about Nancy Kerrigan’s home arena was found in a trash bin outside the Dockside Saloon in Portland.
In this video recorded inside KOIN, Harding spoke with KOIN 6 News anchor Ann Schatz and denied any involvement in the attack.
Later in the video, attack conspirators Derrick Smith and Shawn Eckhardt are seen in a perp walk with Portland police.
Eckardt is now known as Brian Sean Griffith. Harding’s ex-husband, Jeff Gillooly, changed his name to Stone after he was released from prison.
Harding, however, seems relatively ascendant. She’s been very public with interviews surrounding the release of the movie, “I, Tonya,” which earned a Golden Globe win for Allison Janney and a nomination for Margot Robbie.
