PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 4-year-old boy fell out of a second-story window of a duplex in Bethany on Tuesday and was airlifted to an area hospital for treatment of “serious and potentially life-threatening injuries.”

A spokesperson for TVF&R told KOIN 6 News the boy fell out of the window at a residence in the 1500 block of NW French Lane around 5 p.m. Life Flight landed in a field at Springville Elementary and then took the boy to a hospital with serious and potentially life-threatening injuries.

The young child leaned against a screen in a 2nd-story window and fell on a concrete patio, according to TVF&R.

‘Your kids don’t know any better’

A neighbor told KOIN 6 News he saw the child fall and hit the ground.

“You could hear him crying,” said Rashad Fields.

Fields said he ran over to the young boy, who had tucked himself into a tight ball, and picked him up.

“I cradled him and just tried to make sure he was alright.”

Fields, who has 2 of his own kids, said he planned on making changes in his home to make it a safer place.

“Your kids don’t know any better,” he said. “We are putting window locks in, on the top part, too, so the kids can’t even figure out how to unlock it.”
