PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Nine years ago, Jeanine Toth was expected at a Labor Day family barbecue but she didn’t show up.

When her family called her, there was no answer. So they called police. When officers arrived at her North Portland apartment on September 8, 2009, they found her body. She had been stabbed to death.

No one has ever been arrested in connection with the death of the 50-year-old woman.

In 2016, her sister Colleen Hunter told KOIN 6 News Jeanine “was going through a dark time in her life and she was hanging around with some people that were less than desirable.”

Fourteen days before she was found murdered, Jeanine filed a restraining order against an ex-boyfriend. In it, she wrote: “He held his hand over my mouth. I couldn’t breathe.”

The order also showed Jeanine said he carried a knife with him.

“It seems (there’s) a whole lot of evidence, but it’s just like there’s one missing piece that is needed,” Hunter told KOIN 6 News in 2016.

The death of Jeanine Toth is not a cold case, and it remains an active investigation assigned to Portland homicide detectives.

Crime Stoppers of Oregon is offering a reward of up to $2500 for unsolved homicides.
