PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — On April 23, the Burgerville in Southeast Portland made history, becoming the first federally-recognized fast food workers union.

Now there’s two.

The Burgerville in Gladstone — on 19119 Southeast McLoughlin Boulevard — voted to to form a union on Sunday in a secret-ballot election overseen by the National Labor Relations Board.

Burgerville, in a press release, said they’ll hold its first bargaining meeting with the Southeast Portland union on May 22. A meeting with the Gladstone union will eventually follow.

Back in April, Mark Media, a worker at the Burgerville in Southeast Portland, called the vote to unionize “historic.”

“Burgerville workers are at the forefront of their own movement, proving to everyone that we can change our lives and our world for the better,” Medina said.

Dylan Fitzwater, a worker at the Gladstone location, also congratulated the Southeast Portland location’s decision in April while also hinting at Gladstone’s intentions, something that came into fruition on Sunday.

In a press release, Burgerville said it supports its workers’ decision to unionize.
