PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A bull elk illegally killed by a gunshot in Jackson County on Jan. 27. 

Oregon State Police said Central Point Fish and Wildlife troopers were called to Sam’s Valley near Agate Road and found the elk with what appeared to be a bullet in its shoulder. The elk died from its injuries.

A witness told troopers a white truck stopped on the road and a witness shot the elk before driving away about 2 hours before troopers arrived.

There is a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest of elk poachers.
