Multiple cougar sightings reported in Cascade Locks

CASCADE LOCKS, Ore. (KOIN) — Three cougar sightings have been reported within the last week in Cascade Locks.

The sightings have been reported in residential areas. A homeowner tells KOIN 6 they saw a cougar in the forested area just above the adult foster home they run — causing them to keep residents and their dog inside.

“There were cougars almost every night for two weeks off and on going through here,” Thomas Johnson says.

He says he saw tracks in the gravel in front of the home. Some who have seen the cougars describe them as younger.

A cougar was also spotted in Hood River on Monday night. One homeowner said he and his kids normally ride bikes to school but haven’t since hearing about the cougar sightings.

Police responded to the sighting but did not find the animal. The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is monitoring the situation but their policy is not to take action unless the cougar is threatening people or livestock.

If you see a cougar, please call 911 or the non-emergency line at 541.386.2711.
