PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Arguably the cutest new Portland resident enjoys long naps, climbing trees and eating bamboo. She also has waterfront property, air-conditioning and all the food a red panda could want.
Mei Mei the 3-year-old red panda arrived at the Oregon Zoo earlier this month and is already settling into her new home.
The red panda is living in the zoo’s former Amur leopard habitat, which has been remodeled to fit the needs of an animal that likes to climb. Mei Mei also has a pond, misters and an air-conditioned den box.
“She’s very outgoing and curious — she poked her nose out and started exploring right away,” said keeper Sara Morgan.
Zoo visitors may need to look up to spot Mei Mei since she’s often lounging in the trees. If she’s not visible, that’s probably because she’s napping in her den box.
While Mei Mei is the only red panda currently living at the Oregon Zoo, the zoo said it plans on getting another red panda in the coming months.
