Rescue dog missing in Hillsboro after owner hit by car

The 2-year-old mastiff mix ran away after his owner was hit near NE Cornell Road and NE 17th Avenue in Hillsboro

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A rescue dog is missing in Hillsboro after his owner was hit by a car while walking on Tuesday night.

Hillsboro Fire and Rescue said Rufus and his owner were walking near Cornell Road and 17th Avenue when the owner was hit.

Rufus somehow got away. The 2-year-old mastiff mix is usually pretty happy but is scared and runs from strangers trying to help him.

The dog’s former foster caretaker is leading the charge to find him.

“He is extremely large and approximately 140 pounds,” said Amanda Kreeft. “He has got a big head, lots of wrinkles and he’s kind of a blond/brown color.”

Rufus’ owner is home recovering.
