PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A starving Pomeranian dog was abandoned at a Marion County animal shelter and later died.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office says two men dropped the dog off on Thursday at 8 p.m. in a wire crate. Employees found the dog the next morning.
The dog died at the shelter the next day. An examination showed it died of maltreatment and emaciation.
Authorities said they have identified a suspect and are not looking for a second person. However, the investigation is ongoing.
“It’s safe to say it’s probably a criminal investigation at this point, but of course we want to hear the sides of everybody,” said Lt. Chris Baldridge with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. “We have an animal that was neglected and try to get to the bottom of that.”
