Anti-Trump vandal lights Mustang on fire

A nearby Volvo was also vandalized

KOIN 6 News Staff - PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- In the days following the election we've seen reports of hate crimes against minorities as well as attacks on Donald Trump supporters.

Early Friday morning, Portland Police and firefighters were called to SE 9th and Ash st. to find a silver Mustang on fire.

The Mustang had a pro-Trump sticker on it.

Chevonne Ball saw the fire and the graffiti -- the Mustang was also spray painted with the words, "FK Trump"

"We just thought that there was a car on fire. I thought the car had been in an accident," Ball told KOIN 6 News. "It wasn't until after the car was put out that we saw the spray paint on my car."

Ball's own Volvo was parked right behind the burning car with a similar paint job.

She thinks she was just parked in the wrong place at the wrong time.

"I understand people are angry and sad and confused and are very passionate about this election," Ball said. "But vandalism and violence are not the answer. It doesn't solve any problem, it only creates more. We need to talk it out and get through it and we will."

Thankfully Ball was able to get her car cleaned up and she can still drive it, but the same can't be said for the Mustang.

Report a tip to Crime Stoppers

One witness told police he heard an explosion and saw a person jumping in place near the Mustang and then running away from the burning car. The suspect was described as thin, average height and wearing dark clothes.

Oregon Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information that leads to an arrest in this crime.
