Search continues for man who ran from traffic stop

Suspect remains on the loose despite hours-long search

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A search for an armed man who ran from a traffic stop in Southeast Portland Saturday night continues Sunday despite a heavy police presence in the perimeter he was believed to be in.

A perimeter was set up between SE Steele and Liebe Streets, and SE 87th and 88th shortly after 7 p.m.

A Portland Police Special Emergency Reaction Team was sent to the scene along with numerous officers. One man who was in the car was detained but the other suspect fled on foot.

PPB concluded the search in that Lents neighborhood around 11:15 p.m. without finding the suspect.

Neighbors were unhappy to see armed police around near soccer games and a Portland Pickles game.

“There’s kids playing and then there’s the police here with the AR 15s,” neighbor Lara Storke said.

The suspect is a black man about 6-feet tall, 150 pounds and was last seen wearing light blue jeans and red shoes and holding a silver handgun.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
