BEAVERTON, Ore. (KOIN) — Housing community Bridge Meadows broke ground on Wednesday on a new location.
Bridge Meadows offers affordable housing that puts foster families and the kids in their care in close proximity with older people who are there to help support kids in exchange for reduced rent.
The new location will feature 41 residential units and an intergenerational community center.
“Grandparents have time. Most of them love kids or they would not come to this type of development, but it’s so important for foster kids to have more friends and mentors and people they can talk to. It gives comfort to the foster moms and dads who are working,” Denny Doyle, the Beaverton Mayor tells KOIN.
Funding for the project came from the State of Oregon, the City of Beaverton, Washington County, The Collins Foundation and Oregon Community Foundation, Spirit Mountain Community Fund and Windermere Stellar.
