PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The US Census Bureau is now hiring for the 2020 census, with census takers in Multnomah County earning $18 an hour to start.

The full census happens every 10 years. Counting people in the US affects how federal money is distributed for programs like Medicaid, school lunch programs, roads, construction, development grants and medical services, among many others.

Anyone who is a US citizen, is at least 18 and has a valid Social Security number is eligible. Different localities have different pay rates.
