PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 44-year-old man who raped a young child in Washington County was sentenced Wednesday to 27 years behind bars.

Benjamin Thomas Walden sexually abused the child in May of 2018. The Washington County District Attorney’s Office said Walden sometimes lived with the girl’s family member.

The girl told her family member about the abuse and later told authorities Walden had urged her to keep the abuse a secret.

After committing the crime, Walden texted the girl and her family member, saying he loved the child, had done something wrong and was sorry for his actions.

He fled the state and was eventually arrested in Washington.

Walden was convicted of 1st-degree rape, 1st-degree unlawful sexual penetration and 5 counts of 1st-degree sexual abuse. He was sentenced to 325 months in prison.

Authorities think Walden may have more victims. If you or someone you know has information pertaining to this case, please contact law enforcement.
