PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The City Council honored the Portland Thorns players on Wednesday after their run in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The City Council celebrated the players with a proclamation. Thorns team members were there, along with a few from the US Women’s National Team, including Tobin Heath, Emily Sonnett, Lindsay Horan, and Adrianna Franch.

They sat before the Portland City Council on Wednesday as Mayor Ted Wheeler read a proclamation, the city’s highest honor, and encouraged “all residents to observe this day.”

The players said their favorite part of the World Cup experience was winning.

“Keep living the game as much as possible and don’t let anyone take the love of the game away from you,” Horan said.

The event was held at the Council Chambers inside of Portland City Hall.
