PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — An organization that helps homeless or struggling veterans got a big boost Thursday when they were presented with a check for more than $90,000.

Fort Kennedy, founded by First Sgt. Tina Kennedy, received the money from the Hardy family, owners of Crosspoint Auto Auction.

The non-profit organization helps vets with food, clothing, legal help and counseling. Sgt. Kennedy said they currently help 550 homeless and low-income families.

“What that means to the general public is if we can just pay one month’s rent if they get in a bind, they don’t get evicted, and become more and more of the statistic of homeless,” she told KOIN 6 News.

She said this holiday season they’ll give out stocking to every homeless veteran in the area.
