PORTLAND, Ore. (PORTLAND TRIBUNE) — Legacy Healthy may challenge a June 19 vote by nurses at the Unity Center for Behavioral Health in Northeast Portland to join the Oregon Nurses Association.

The vote followed more than a year of scrutiny over worker and patient safety conditions at the regional psychiatric facility, which is run by Legacy Health.

Overall, 128 of the 195 nurses at Unity voted “yes,” and 25 voted “no,” though nine votes have not yet been tallied due to questions raised.

Legacy had challenged whether Unity nurses qualified for a union under federal labor law, and may still challenge the vote, according to a spokesperson.

“While we are still in the process of determining next steps, we look forward to continuing to partner with you to ensure people experiencing a behavioral health crisis receive the best care possible at Unity,” the spokesperson said.
