BEAVERTON, Ore. (KOIN) — A 47-year-old registered sex offender from Colorado is awaiting extradition to Oregon after police arrested him for trying to lure a Beaverton girl.

The investigation into Jason Allan Surprise started on Jan. 25 when the 14-year-old and her parents reported the online messages to Beaverton police. The “extremely graphic” conversations led police to believe Surprise wanted a sexual relationship with the teen.

A Washington County grand jury indicted Surprise on Feb. 14 on 2 counts of using a child in display of sexually explicit conduct, a Measure 11 crime, and 4 counts of luring a minor.

Then on Feb. 26, detectives with Beaverton police and Fort Collins officers served a search warrant at Surprise’s home in the 1700 block of Azelea Drive. Evidence from his home was seized and he was taken into custody.

Surprise is booked at Larimer County Jail awaiting extradition to Oregon.
