Convicted felon charged for setting fires that killed dogs

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A convicted felon faces several charges after an alleged “crime spree” of burglary and arson that killed 2 dogs.

Police said Carl Sandberg, 34, set fires at multiple homes and Capital Baptist Church. He is also accused of stealing a firearm and vehicle.

“During his series of crimes, Sandberg showed a disregard for human and animal life and personal property….” police said in a press release.

Sandberg faces charges of 1st-degree arson, 1st-degree burglary, 1st-degree aggravated animal abuse, 1st-degree theft, unlawful use of a credit card, identity theft and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
