82-year-old woman hit by car on SE Foster, dies

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — An 82-year-old woman dies Friday morning after being hit by a car the night before in Southeast Portland. 

Louanna Battams was walking in an unmarked crosswalk on Southeast Foster Road near Southeast 71st Avenue when she was hit by a car, according to the Portland Police Bureau. 

Officers launched an investigation and temporarily closed Southeast Foster between 72nd and 68th avenues. The driver stayed at the scene and was later released without charges. 

Battams was taken to a hospital in critical condition. She died of her injuries Friday morning. 

The PPB said the death marked the 26th traffic-related fatality of 2019.
