PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 6-year-old boy was airlifted after being hit by a car Tuesday evening in Keizer, officers said.

The boy was riding his bike within a crosswalk when he was hit by a Chevy Tahoe just before 5 p.m. at the intersection of Sam Orcutt Way NE and River Road N, Keizer police said.

The woman driving the Tahoe was trying to turn south on River Road N when she hit the boy, officers said.

The boy sustained a head injury and was taken to a Salem hospital but he was later flown by Life Flight to a trauma center in Portland.

Police said the driver stayed at the scene and was cooperating with investigators.
