MILWAUKIE, Ore. (KOIN) — A driver with a passenger who fled from a traffic stop ran a red light and slammed into and underneath a semi-truck Thursday afternoon.

The incident unfolded around 2:30 p.m. when Milwaukie police were called to Mike’s Drive-In for a “fraud in progress,” Oregon State Police spokesperson Patrick Huskey told KOIN 6 News.

The suspects left the drive-in but were spotted by an officer who tried to pull them over. Instead, Huskey said, the driver took off and ran a red light at Hwy 99E and SE Ochoco Street.

The car went underneath the truck, with the front and back of the car peeking out from either side of the truck.

Both people suffered “significant” traumatic injuries and were rushed to a hospital. One was taken to a nearby trauma center.

Huskey said it is a multiple agency investigation and, though it’s early, “impairment is suspected.”

KOIN 6 News will have more information as it develops.
