PORTLAND, Ore (KOIN) — A 2-car crash on northbound I-5 closed the freeway for hours north of Woodburn Wednesday night and left one person dead.

The crash happened just after 9 p.m. near milepost 266, the Oregon State Police said. Investigators learned a VW Passat rear-ended a “stopped or very slow moving Honda Accord” driven by a man.

The man was unresponsive when pulled from the Honda by emergency responders and, despite lifesaving efforts from an OSP trooper and a bystander, the man died at the scene.

His name has not been released.

The driver of the Passat, a 41-year-old woman from Happy Valley, and her young passenger suffered minor injuries but were not hospitalized.

No further details are available at this time.
