PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A drunk driver who caused a deadly crash near Sherwood in March was sentenced to 6 years in prison.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office said Roger J. Bayard, 18, turned onto Southwest Pacific Highway from a parking lot. He quickly moved into the left lane and into the path of a Ford F350 pickup truck.

The impact caused the pickup to go into the median, where it rolled several times into a ditch, killing passenger Lorraine Wheeler, 47.

The DA’s office said officers found Bayard using mouthwash and noticed signs of impairment. Investigators found empty liquor bottles and marijuana in his car.

Bayard admitted to drinking alcohol before the crash and had a blood alcohol content of .077% three hours after the crash.

He pleaded guilty to 2nd-degree manslaughter, 4th-degree assault with an injury and DUII.
