Motorcyclist dies in crash with SUV in Boring

Deputies said to avoid the area of SE Stone Road & Highway 26

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A man was killed after the motorcycle he was riding crashed with an SUV in Boring, officials said.

According to the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office, the crash took place around 3 p.m. on Thursday afternoon in the area of Southeast Stone Road and Highway 26.

Deputies said the SUV was traveling south on Southeast Stone Road and was making a left turn on to eastbound Highway 26. The motorcycle was heading westbound on the highway.

Deputies said the driver of the SUV remained on the scene and was cooperating with investigators.

"This is a very high-traveled highway," said Multnomah County Sgt. Brandon Pedro. "I wouldn't say it happens daily but you know enough to where people need to slow down and you know, take their time getting to their location."

Deputies said the intersection had been cleared around 6:30 p.m. and all lanes of Highway 26 had reopened.

People living in the area told KOIN 6 News the place where the crash happened frequently sees problems.

"Almost daily we have people that are trying to shoot across the highway and there is no break in the traffic, so you hear a lot of screeching and horn honking," said local resident Katrina Rivers.

Thursday's crash was the second in two days on Highway 26. On Tuesday, 10 people were hurt when a school bus collided with two cars just 1.5 miles away. And back in January, a person was airlifted from the scene of a wreck at the intersection of Highway 26 and Southeast Stone Road.

Neighbors said they've had enough.

"I think it would be very good if they would put in a stop light," said Rivers. "We have asked in the past, multiple times, for them to put one in and we have been told 'no' because it is a highway not a street."
