2 killed in head-on crash on US 26 near Government Camp

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A head-on crash involving a semi-truck killed two people Friday morning and shut down U.S. 26 at milepost 48.5

ODOT said the crash happened around 4 a.m. and involved a car and truck hauling wood chips.

According to the preliminary investigation, a car was traveling east when it crossed into the westbound lanes for an unknown reason. The car then hit the truck, which came to a rest off the road in some trees and caught fire.

Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other people in the vehicles.

All lanes were closed at Kiwanis Camp Road, east of Welches but have since reopened.
