PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — One man died after crashing into a tree on the side of Highway 38 west of Elkton Saturday afternoon, said Oregon State Police.

Troopers and emergency responders were called out to milepost 25 around 2:45 p.m. yesterday after the crash was reported. An 84-year-old Roseburg man was driving a GMC pickup truck when, for unknown reasons, he veered off the roadway and struck a tree, said police.

The driver, John Norlin, was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other cars were involved in the crash. Hwy 38 was partially closed for roughly 4 hours as police investigated the fatal crash.
