PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man was hit by a car and later died in Beaverton Sunday evening, said local police.

The 86-year-old man was struck by a car on Scholls Ferry Road near SW Crystal Street around 6 p.m. While he was walking within a marked crosswalk at the time, witnesses told Beaverton police the man did not have the “walk” signal on when a car passed through the intersection during a green light and hit him.

The pedestrian was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died from the injuries he sustained. His identity has not yet been released by authorities.

The driver involved stayed at the scene to cooperate. Police said there were no signs that the driver was speeding or impaired at the time of the crash.

This was the first fatal crash in Beaverton so far this year, said police.
