HILLSBORO, Ore. (KOIN) — A head-on crash between a dump truck and motorcycle sent the motorcyclist to the hospital via Life Flight and temporarily shut down Cornelius Pass Road.

According to Hillsboro Fire and Rescue, the crash happened around 7:30 a.m. Thursday north of West Union Road.

The motorcyclist — identified as 41-year-old Jeremy Womelsdorff of Estacada — was driving southbound on Cornelius Pass Road when he collided with the dump truck.

Investigators think the motorcycle crossed the center line and caused the crash.

The truck was pulling a trailer loaded with tree stumps but the trailer detached and flipped over after the driver of the truck swerved off the road to avoid hitting other oncoming cars.

Cornelius Pass Road was closed between West Union and Germantown for several hours, but reopened shortly before 11:30 a.m.

Womelsdorff was in critical condition at a local trauma hospital later Thursday.

Neither driver is thought to have been impaired at the time of the crash.
