PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A motorcyclist crashed after speeding away from a Port of Portland officer who was trying to stop him early Wednesday morning.
The rider has been identified as 35-year-old John R. Shenfield of Portland.
After Shenfield rode away, police found him and the crashed motorcycle near Northeast 148th Avenue and Northeast Airport Way. He died at the scene.
Investigators determined that speed and alcohol were likely factors in the crash.
This is the 35th traffic-related fatality in Portland this year.
