Pedestrian hit, killed on NB I-5 near La Center

Northbound I-5 was closed at exit 16 for several hours

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A 20-year-old man was hit and killed by a car on northbound I-5 in Washington Thursday night.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Will Finn said the incident happened around 8:30 p.m. at the La Center exit.

According to authorities, the pedestrian -- later identified as Billy N. Griffith -- was crossing the northbound lanes from the west to the east when he was hit by a car in the left lane. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver wasn't injured in the crash. It's unclear if any citations will be issued.

All northbound lanes were blocked at exit 16 for several hours, but have since reopened. Commercial vehicles were parked in the Ilani Casino parking lot until the road reopened.
