PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 19-year-old man was arrested after police said he ran from a car crash in Gresham.

A woman who was in the car called the police just after 2 a.m. because she was trapped and hurt. She had to be removed from the car before she was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

About an hour later, 19-year-old Julio Montella — who was bleeding from the head — flagged down a driver and said he’d been a passenger in a car crash.

Police figured out Montella had actually been the driver of the crash on NE Wilkes Road and NE 181st and no one else was involved.

He faces charges of felony hit-and-run, 2nd-degree assault, DUI (marijuana), reckless driving, reckless endangerment and 2nd-degree criminal mischief.
