Scooter rider, 65, critically hurt after crash

The crash happened Saturday in Northwest Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 65-year-old man was critically hurt when he fell off an e-scooter while going over railroad tracks in Northwest Portland on October 5.

The crash at NW 9th and Naito happened shortly after 4 p.m. that day, Portland police said. A passerby flagged down a patrolling officer to get help for the man, who was described as “unconscious and not breathing” at that time.

The officer began CPR and the man was rushed to the hospital. His name has not yet been released.

Investigators said no one else was involved. The Spin scooter rider was not wearing a helmet at the time, authorities said.

In a statement, a Spin spokesperson said, “Spin is committed to the safety of its riders. We are working with the Portland Police Bureau as they investigate this incident and stand ready to assist in any way we can.”
