Drivers ditch vehicles, crews mop up fuel spill on NB I-5


The crash blocked NB lanes of I-5 at North Killingsworth Street

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A crash between a semi and a pickup truck sent diesel fuel onto I-5 in North Portland and closed northbound lanes for hours.

The crash happened around 6 p.m. at North Killingsworth Street. All northbound lanes and 2 southbound lanes were blocked.

One northbound lane reopened about 2 hours later but the ramp from Greeley Street to northbound I-5 remained closed as officials worked to clear stalled and abandoned vehicles, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation.

Crews were also mopping up about 100 gallons of diesel fuel that spread across all 3 lanes.

ODOT said all northbound lanes had reopened at Killingsworth at 9:15 p.m.

It’s unclear if anyone was hurt in the crash.
