Spate of fatal crashes grabs OSP's attention

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A series of crashes in recent days has taken the lives of a number of people and grabbed the attention of the Oregon State Police.

On Thursday, 2 separate crashes took 2 lives. In Marion County, one person died and 4 others hurt in a collision between 3 vehicles. An earlier crash took the life of a 51-year-old Ridgefield man in a 3-car chain reaction, rear-end crash that began when the lead driver stopped because their were ducks in the road.

On Tuesday afternoon, 2 men in their 70s died in a crash on Dodge Park Boulevard in Gresham.

Earlier this week, the Oregon State Police said they've responded to 11 fatal crashes in a 3-day period. They want drivers to focus on the "Fatal 5" driving behaviors: speed, occupant safety, lane safety, impaired driving and distracted driving.
