CENTRALIA, Wash. (KOIN) — A tanker truck crashed early Wednesday morning — spilling motor oil and blocking all northbound I-5 lanes near Centralia.
The Washington State Department of Transportation said the crash happened before 4:30 a.m. at milepost 85.5 near the Thurston County line.
Washington State Patrol Trooper Will Finn said the truck was carrying 4,000 gallons of used motor oil. It spilled a total of 1,800 gallons before crews were able to stop the leak.
Trooper Finn said the clean up will be an “all day event.” He added that 3 miles beyond the scene needs to be cleared since some motorists drove through the spill before the road closed.
The driver of the truck was arrested for DUI.
A detour has been set up at exit 82.
