PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man was shot in Portland’s St. Johns neighborhood Saturday morning, authorities say.
Officers responded for a call of a shooting on the 10500 block of North Midway Avenue around 8:45 a.m., Portland police said.
The victim was taken to a local hospital and his condition was not immediately clear when the shooting was confirmed by police; however, authorities later clarified his wounds are not life-threatening.
A suspect in the shooting left the scene before police were called.
Portland police issued an update early Sunday morning saying officers located the suspect Saturday evening. They said the suspect was spotted driving north on Interstate 5 into Washington at around 5:15 p.m. Vancouver police officers responded and stopped the suspect on I-5 near Northeast 78th Street in Hazel Dell.
The suspect, 35-year-old Jaron Mulkey, was booked in the Clark County Jail on an arrest warrant for attempted murder, first-degree assault, and felon in possession of a firearm. An extradition hearing will take place at a later time.

Saturday morning’s shooting comes as officials grapple with gun violence across the city. So far in 2021, there have been 166 shooting-related incidents reported by the Portland Police Bureau, with 51 shooting-related injuries and 10 killed. By comparison, during the same period in 2020, there were 85 total shooting-related incidents, with 24 shot and injured and only one person killed.
