PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Two teenagers are in custody after one person was shot at the Lane County Fairgrounds yesterday afternoon, Eugene police said.
Police officials say an adult male and two juveniles, ages 16 and 14, became involved in a physical altercation. During the altercation, the 16-year-old displayed a handgun and threated the adult male.
According to the Eugene Police Department, one person that attempted to intervene was later assaulted by several friends of the teenagers, who were involved in the original physical altercation.
The 16-year-old was then contacted by security, where the teen later discharged the handgun striking an uninvolved woman in the arm. Police say the teenager was detained by security.
“During this time, the 14-year-old disturbed evidence of the shooting and was also detained by security,” added EPD.
The 16-year-old was charged with assault in the second degree with a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm. The 14-year-old was charged with tampering with evidence and disorderly conduct.
Police say the investigation is still on-going.
