Accused Oregon City shooter in court, victim critical

Crime

OREGON CITY, Ore. (KOIN) — A man accused of shooting his roommate last week in Oregon City is facing attempted murder charges.

Daniel Craig Wiese appeared in Clackamas County court on Tuesday. He is also charged with 1st-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon.

The man he’s accused of shooting — 30-year-old Ethan Fager — is still in critical condition, according to the Oregon City Police Department.

The shooting

Oregon City police said Fager called 911 on Friday afternoon after being shot multiple times at his apartment in the 1800 block of Molalla Avenue.

Police and deputies had to break the bedroom window to get Fager out. He was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The Clackamas County SWAT team arrived to help arrest the suspect, who was still inside the apartment. Authorities said they used gas to force 31-year-old Wiese out of the apartment and a struggle ensued outside.

Officers said one officer fired a shot during the use of the gas but Wiese was not hit.

Officers used less-lethal weapons to take Wiese into custody.

Wiese was taken to a hospital for evaluation and then booked at the Clackamas County jail.

A man who also lives at Mt. View Apartments said his wife told him the shooting “shook the whole apartment complex.”

The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office and the Major Crimes Team launched an investigation into the shot fired by the officer at the scene on Friday.

Wiese is scheduled back in court on June 4. He’s being held without bail.
