PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 30-year-old man is facing charges after allegedly breaking into a 7-year-old girl’s bedroom in Washington County.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office said the girl’s dad woke up to the sound of his daughter screaming at 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
He ran to her room and saw a man, who was dripping wet, climbing out of his daughter’s window before running away.
The family lives at the Court Yards at Springville apartments in the 17000 block of NW Springville Road in the Bethany neighborhood.
Others who live at the complex told KOIN 6 News they heard the commotion.
“I had my window open, heard some guy yelling,” said Cole Beeson. “I heard some splashes in the pool and some guy calling the cops.”
Deputies found a wallet on a chair at a nearby hot tub and identified the suspect as Kord Knudsen — a resident of the same apartment complex. They also found his clothing.
The neighbors KOIN 6 spoke with said they’d never seen Knudsen around the complex before.
“I don’t recognize him,” said Susan Salmonsen. “I thought I knew most of them.”
Salmonsen said the incident will make her think twice before leaving her window open this summer.
“I live in a bottom unit and I’ve never even thought about not leaving my window open but I won’t from now on,” she said.
Kord admitted to having had alcohol and marijuana before the incident, according to deputies. He was arrested on 2nd-degree burglary and 2nd-degree criminal mischief charges.
