PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A driver was arrested about 24 hours after he allegedly fled the scene of a traffic stop.

West Linn police said Arturo Garcia, 31, was stopped Monday around 10 p.m. on 8th Court but fled into the Willamette Neighborhood.

Officers said they found methamphetamines in the man’s car.

Despite searching for about 3 hours, officers didn’t find the suspect.

Witnesses reported seeing a man matching his description late Tuesday morning near 7th Street and 5th Avenue. Once again, officers weren’t able to find him despite using search dogs, a rescue boat and even a drone. Willamette Primary School was placed under lockout while officers searched the area.

Several hours later, another person reported seeing the suspect, this time between 8th and 7th streets. Again, authorities failed to find him.

Garcia was eventually taken into custody about half a mile from the spot he was originally stopped.
