Driver with 'Tom Selleck mustache' arrested for hit-and-run

The driver flipped the bicyclist off as he drove away

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- The driver accused of hitting a bicyclist and flipping the bird as he sped away last week has been arrested, deputies said.

Detectives from the Washington County Sheriff's Office arrested 55-year-old William Offinga on Thursday at his home near Forest Grove.

Deputies said several tips led detectives to Offinga's home where detectives found a car matching the description of the one that hit David Embree last week. The car also reportedly had damage consistent with a crash.

Embree said he had stopped to check his map at the intersection of Northwest Hillside Road and Northwest Clapshaw Road when he heard a car coming up behind him.

He looked back and said he gave the car a wave.

Then, the car hit him. Embree thinks the side mirror of a Mercedes convertible slammed into him, knocking him to the ground.

His clothes were torn and his leg was injured in the process.

To add insult to injury, the driver flipped Embree off as he drove away.

Witnesses said the person behind the wheel was a white man in his 60s with a baseball cap and a "Tom Selleck mustache."

Offinga was booked into the Washington County Jail on one count of reckless driving and one count of felony hit and run.
