PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A burglar with a machete was stopped by a homeowner with a gun during a Monday night crime in Southeast Portland, police said.

William James Kennedy was allegedly armed with a machete and hiding in a garage in the 8000 block of SE Francis when the homeowner spotted him shortly before 10 p.m.

The homeowner fired 2 shots and Kennedy did as he was told until police arrived, officials said.

Investigators did find evidence that shots were fired but no one was hurt by the gunfire.

Kennedy, 50, was booked into the Multnomah County jail on a burglary charge.
