PORTLAND, Ore (KOIN) — One man died, one was seriously hurt and another was arrested after a crash near Toledo that may have started as a kidnapping.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said deputies found an overturned Ford F-350 in a mountainous area about 300 feet down a steep hillside on 1000 Line Road, about 10 miles from the Oregon coast.
They were called to the scene by 22-year-old Brendon Thomas of Toledo. When they arrived they found another Toledo resident, Nikolas Yost, partially ejected and dead. Yost was 25.
Robert Bauman, the 30-year-old driver of the truck, was arrested when deputies found him a short distance from the crash.
Both he and Thomas were taken to an area hospital for treatment of their injuries. Thomas was seriously hurt but later released.
Bauman was also released from the hospital and then taken to the Lincoln County Jail. He’s facing 1st-degree manslaughter, 2 counts of kidnapping, 2 counts of reckless endangerment, DUII, felony assault and felony failure to help injured persons. He remains behind bars on bail of $560,000.
