Man hit with 2×4 in NW Portland, suspect arrested

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man was hit in the head with a board Saturday afternoon in Northwest Portland.

The victim, who was treated for non-life threatening injuries, told police the suspect beat him with two 2-by-4 boards that had screws sticking out. 

Witnesses said he was also walking around the area of NW 4th and NW Hoyt, hitting cars and threatening people.

Officers found the suspect, 60-year-old Gary Barker, nearby. Police said he threw a glass bottle at the officer before he was arrested on charges of 2nd-degree assault, 2nd-degree attempted assault, unlawful use of a weapon, third-degree escape, interfering with a peace officer, 2nd-degree disorderly conduct and 2nd-degree criminal mischief.
