PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The Cowlitz County Coroner’s Office has identified the man shot by police earlier this week as 51-year old Christopher Johnson, of Longview, Washington.

Tuesday’s autopsy found that Johnson died from gunshot wounds in his chest, however a complete description of his wounds was not released.

Officers first responded to a report of a suicidal person with a weapon on Monday evening in Longview. After police heard a gunshot, Lower Columbia SWAT was called out to the area. SWAT officers were then involved in a shooting that ended with Johnson’s death.

The Coroner’s Office clarifies that while the manner of death is classified as a homicide, this does not “establish criminal intent.”

The Vancouver Police Department will be conducting the criminal investigation.
