Portland driver shot after passing possible hitchhiker

A man was shot while driving in North Portland on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019. (KOIN)

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man was driving in Portland’s St. Johns neighborhood when he was suddenly shot on Saturday night.

The victim was struck at North Columbia Way and North Macrum Avenue around 9:30 p.m. Officers found bullet strikes on his car, a nearby church and a house.

The victim said while he was driving, someone in the street tried flagging him down as he passed. He didn’t stop for the stranger — and the shot was fired.

The man suffered minor injuries and no one else was hurt. He was sent to the hospital and has since been released.

No arrests have been made.
